Shanghai Waterway Engineering Design and Consulting Co Ltd (SWEDCC) is wholly owned by Shanghai Dredging Corporation Ltd - a subsidiary of China Communications Construction Corporation Ltd who is listed in Hong Kong Stock Exchange (stock code: 1800.HK). As founded in 1977, SWEDCC has, after more than 30 years persevering and strenuous efforts, grown up from a small research institute having only a single waterway specialty into a Class-A survey and design institution of great comprehensive capabilities in the fields of investigation, design, development, engineering and construction, technical consulting, quality inspection, and project cost consulting etc. SWEDCC specializes in providing design services for waterway engineering works, harbor construction projects, navigation structures and maritime traffic control systems; providing consulting services for the planning and evaluation of hydraulic and water transport projects;

providing study and research services for mathematic and physical model tests as well as sedimentation observation; providing engineering design services for urban flood control works, maritime costal works, as well as industrial and civil structures; providing services of marine survey and mapping, engineering survey, exploratory drilling, geophysical prospecting, fluid mud testing and hydrological survey; providing testing services for port construction works and raw materials; providing developing services for dredging equipments, navigation aids and survey instruments; providing practical application of computerization as well as remote sensing and reporting techniques; and providing project management and supervision services. At present, SWEDCC has a total of 308 staff in services, among whom eight ones are titled as professor engineer, 61 has obtained senior professional title, 96 has middle title, and 251 has got their education higher than college degree.
During recent decade, SWEDCC have completed more than 1000 study cases and design projects of various kinds and won dozens of awards for excellent technical results given by national authority, the Ministry of Transport, Shanghai Municipality, and China Communications Construction Corporation Ltd. Among these, eleven are awarded by the State, 22 by the Ministry of Transport, and 25 by Shanghai Municipal Government and CCCC. Remarkably, the design and construction of the Yangtze Estuary Deepwater Channel Regulation Project – Phase I and Phase II have respectively won the National Gold Award for Excellent Design and the Zhan Tianyou Civil Engineering Award. “The Complete Set of Technology for Yangtze Estuary Deepwater Channel Regulation Project” has won the first prize of National Science and Technology Advancement Award. During recent years, SWEDCC continuously encourages technological innovation and actively conduct the research, development and application of core technologies on navigation channel, dredging, waterway regulation, reclamation, and other fields. Presently, a series of core technologies have been developed. For instance, SWEDCC has obtained 12 utility model patent rights, such as Geo-textile Sandbag, Geo-textile Mattress with Interlocking Concrete Blocks, and Geo-textile Mattress with Rib-like Sand Bags.
